What We Do

The Housing Resources Board (HRB) is Bainbridge Island’s non-profit affordable housing provider and advocate. Because escalating rents and real estate prices threaten the community’s social and cultural diversity, we cultivate and develop affordable housing on the island.

Properties

HRB owns and operates six rental properties providing 40 low-income housing opportunities. We maintain and improve these properties as well as provide tenant management. When new properties are developed through our Pathways Program, we work with local architects and community planners to realize our vision for quality housing that blends with the character of the island.

Services

HRB provides housing services to families in crisis and residents with disabilities through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and Independent Living Program. We also help people with marginal income find housing through our HomeFinder Program, and we collaborate with Helpline House to provide transitional housing and support through our Islandhome Outreach Program.

Accountability

HRB maintains operations at 7%, so that 93% of funds coming into the agency are used directly for programs. Of that direct program funding we ensure maximum leverage at a ratio of over $19 for each $1 spent. For every dollar we aim to achieve $19 of further value, whether in land value, foundation dollars or other sources. HRB annual reports reflect the efficiency and productivity of the organization.

Collaboration

HRB partners and collaborates with state, county and city agencies to further our efforts to expand affordable housing on the island. We educate the public toward that goal and encourage community-spirited residents to join our cause to assure Bainbridge Island remains a diverse and interesting place to live. There are numerous ways to help further the HRB mission.
