Housing Resources Board has recently acquired two new high tech homes. Dubbed the "Sparrows" the homes were donated by Unico Properties thanks to Carol and Dale Sperling. Sperling is German for Sparrow.
The two new homes made their way to Bainbridge Island in October 2009. Lifted by crane off the top of the Rainier Tower in Seattle and trucked to the island, the homes will provide both affordable and sustainable housing.
The one-bedroom homes are made to stack one on top of the other and feature state-of-the-art green features including occupancy sensors to control lighting and heating, energy efficient appliances and a roof garden. Designed by HyBrid Architecture and Mithun Architechts, details of the homes are featured in an article in Building Design+Construction.
The homes are currently stored at the City transfer station until they can be moved to Knechtel in spring 2010. Read the letter to the neighborhood about the move.
