In looking at the census data online, the American Communities Survey the most updated information available for Bainbridge Island is:

The following was found:

  • Population – 23,180
  • Median income – 98,608
  • Average income – 130,711

Housing Cost Burden is the percentage of residents whose housing costs are higher than 30% of income:

  • 38% of homeowners with a mortgage
  • 50% of renters

This shows that almost 40% of those who own a home on Bainbridge Island own something that is too expensive for them to afford and half of those who rent are paying a higher rent than they can afford.  

City of Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island is located within the Central Puget Sound Basin, east of the Kitsap Peninsula and west of the City of Seattle.

The Island has 53 miles of shoreline and is approximately five miles wide and ten miles long, encompassing nearly 17,778 acres, or 28 square miles (73 km²), and is one of the larger islands in Puget Sound.
