A youth sponsored and led campaign
In 2009, after learning about the need for affordable housing, Hyla Middle School students held a fundraising event to support Housing Resources Board. Some of the funds raised were set aside as seed money for the private playground at Ferncliff Village.
Now, inspired by the work of these students, a youth led volunteer group has formed to raise the rest of the funding needed for the playground.
They accomplished their goal of raising $2,500! A dynamic “can-do” group of students came together in 2011 to figure out how they could raise money for the Playground at Ferncliff Village. The idea of creating birdhouses to sell to support housing for others was their creative inspiration. The team included Sarah Bershinski, Leah Mulholland, Makaila O’Brien, Katrina Kerrigan and Bella Crowley.
A huge thank you to Bob Grimm, ID Construction for donating all materials and labor for construction.
