Celebrating 20 years of Service from HRB with a Proclamation of October as Housing Resources Board Appreciation Month on Bainbridge Island
WHEREAS, securing safe, accessible, and affordable housing for all our citizens is both a social and moral imperative; and
WHEREAS, Bainbridge Island has the highest housing costs in our county and among the highest in the state; and
WHEREAS, Bainbridge Island has stated in its Comprehensive Plan as well as in a number of public surveys that affordable housing is both needed and desired in order to maintain the character, diversity, and economic vitality of our City; and
WHEREAS, creating and maintaining housing that is affordable to individuals and families who live and work on Bainbridge Island, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities, is crucial to ensuring Bainbridge Island’s continued strength and vitality; and
WHEREAS, the only organization based solely on Bainbridge Island that is addressing this need and desire for affordable housing is The Housing Resources Board and their many programs, rental properties, and projects: and
WHEREAS, The Housing Resources Board was founded by concerned citizens of this community in 1989 and is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Chris Snow, Mayor of the City of Bainbridge Island, and acting on behalf of the citizens of Bainbridge Island, do hereby proclaim October as HOUSING RESOURCES BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH on Bainbridge Island, and do encourage all residents to join with me in attending the anniversary celebration for The Housing Resources Board to be held at the Winslow Green on Saturday, October 3rd at 1 PM, and do also encourage all residents to redouble their support of the efforts of this great community organization to provide affordable housing for all our residents.
