Why Affordable Housing?

Affordable Housing:
Preserves diversity…
From the wisdom and dedication of our retired community, to the enthusiastic dreams of fledgling families, affordable housing preserves our community’s diversity. Without affordable housing, our nurses, teachers, policemen, shop clerks, janitors and all the other hardworking people who contribute to our community may not be able to afford to live in the community they serve. Businesses struggle to keep employees when there is not affordable housing available for working families. Families are forced to move outside the community to find housing they can afford.

Changes lives…
Affordable housing provides working families a home they can be proud of and a safe, healthy environment for their children. Young moderate-income families' dreams of homeownership can be fulfilled with our Community Land Trust model. Affordable housing helps to strengthen the heart of our community and builds a strong foundation for future generations.

Brings us together…
Affordable housing not only benefits those who are in need, it also offers our community the opportunity to become involved in a worthy and essential cause. As residents become aware of the unmet housing needs, and volunteer opportunities arise, cooperative efforts thrive, and community ties are strengthened.

Breaks down barriers…
Communities may have a misconception of what “affordable housing" is. The days of projects and an “us and them” mentality are becoming a thing of the past. Affordable homes are often in the very heart of attractive, thriving neighborhoods and are indistinguishable from market rate properties. This integration breaks down prejudices, and builds a sense of mutual respect and dignity.

Helps to end the cycle of poverty…
Affordable housing brings greater opportunities for success to low to moderate-income families. Children grow up in safe neighborhoods, with thriving schools. Parents are able to live in the community in which they work, which provides a sense of belonging. Families thrive when given the basic necessities to do so. Every little success is a step towards leading the future generation to a more self-sufficient and successful future.
